Statement 2018

I’m currently focused on a series of work which is a personal exploration of the sacred feminine. Knowing that gender is a construct, I’m working to unpack individual reflections surrounding my gender expression and the traditions and rituals I was both raised with and continue to both explore deconstruct.

While thematically my past work has explored ‘traditional’ gender roles, I am examining at spiritual and cultural elevations of the sacred feminine within my ethnographic lineage and that of those who I paint. This work is intended to be contemporary commentary, often in juxtaposition to the often violent and vehement elements in society individuals are subjected to on a daily basis.

The worlds I seek to create are those of dreams and memory, creating narratives to breathe life into the tines of lived experience.
